An introduction to some definitions

Absolutism:

A political system in which a single ruler, group, or political party has complete power over a country.


Activism:

The activity of working to achieve political or social change, especially as a member of an organization with particular aims.


Ageism:

Unfair treatment of people because of their age.


Agnosticism:

The belief that it is not possible to know whether God exists or not.


Altruism:

Willingness to do things that bring advantages to others, even if it results in disadvantage for yourself.


Anachronism:

A person, a custom or an idea that seems old-fashioned and does not belong to the present.


Anarchism:

The political belief that there should be little or no formal or official organization to society but that people should work freely together.


Anglicism:

A word or phrase from the English language that is used in another language.


Animism:

The belief that all natural things, such as plants, animals, rocks, and thunder, have spirits and can influence human events.


Anthropocentrism:

The belief that humans are more important than anything else.
